All of the clips that I have seen up until this 1 have left me thoroughly unimpressed, but now that there is some decent up-close footage, I am totally eating my words!!! His technique is amazing, his costumes are very modest, but still powerfull, & DAAAMMMNNN what a hottie!!!

    Ooooohhh, I beg to differ, for many reasons . . . .

First, his "double wing" piece is pretty dry. The endless torso undulations til he opens the wings don't build tension, they are just a bunch of party tricks. No feeling, just some technique to kill time til The Big Reveal. And then, the wing action is a lot of spinning and prancing, but no real framing of dance moves. Plus, and we can blame this one on whoever posted the clips more than the dancer himself --- it's not a "double wing" dance, it's a guy dancing with two colours of wings at the same time, but moving as one unit --- not to be confused with double veil, where the veils DO move together AND independent of each other.

And second, seeing just the one costume, I'm not sure what you mean by calling that "very modest" --- I'm not a prude, but given that pants are, well, a given, I wouldn't call something modest when nipples are shown. Or perhaps I misunderstood, and you mean modest as opposed to being flashy, in which case I *do* agree. (Ah, bless the typed word and the room for misinterpretation!) ;-)

    And yes . . . ah, men in eyeliner, ALWAYS on my "hottie" list .. . . but I grew up in the '80's . . . .

The latter was correct. I meant modest as in not very flashy & overwhelming.

If you thought he was a hottie in those vids, take a look at Mr. Ozgen's page for the Bellydance Conference Of Canada:

        www.bellydanceconference.com/ozgen.htm

Mr. Hot Turkish Dude will be here on our Main Stage in Toronto in a month.

I like his costumes, especially the chest shrugs. They show that kind of European influence and creativity. I'm doing the same thing with my new costume, but I really don't have enough chest definition to pull it off. We'll see. :)

The only thing I'm not fond of is his overuse of body glitter.

I'll agree with you on that. I have never been a fan of body-glitter on men. But regardless... mouth-watering!!! LOL!!!

Speaking of body-glitter on men... Have you seen "Male Bellydancer Diva Zenne" My GOD!!! I just wanna use him as the star for my Christmas tree!!!

So I just spent four days hanging out with Mr. Ozgen Ozgec at the International Bellydance Conference Of Canada (we both danced on the Main Stage the same night) and can report that:

              A) He is just as hot in real life as in his pics. (He's pretty tall!)
              B) He is totally charming, with his Turkish accent and smile.
              C) He's totally cool.
              D) He blew people away with his dance at the IBCC. He danced with a rope and it boggled people's minds.

And I will confess, I started teaching him to say bad words in English (though I blame Jim Boz as well... ;-)))) Mr. Ozgec went back to London, England having learned to say "Douchebag." ;-))))))

Hey V how about a fuller report on the conference? I'm so pissed because my sends me a work-related conference in Toronto the week AFTER it's over (although T town is nice.) I'd love to hear the highs, the lows, the revelations, etc. Do tell!

For you Tammy... I will try to gather a collection of thoughts.

It seemed like this was the year of the male bellydancer at the IBCC.

Gala star Tito was spectacular with three workshops of his energetic style. Jim Boz danced on the main stage Friday night and did a subtle, refined performance, Mark Balahadia brought a new feel to the stage, Ozgen Ozgec was a Turkish whirlwind of power and did a segment with a section of rope that was amazing to watch. I danced with The Righteous Rogues Of Raks Sharki (and Yasmina Ramzy's Arabesque Dance Company), Nath Keo was on the Gala stage with his troupe Sacred Centre, as were Mayyadah and Amir from Germany doing Orientale.

There was also a panel on Male Bellydance that had Me, Mark, Jim Boz, bellydance academic Stavros Karayanni and Tito that went over a lot of the issues in the male bellydance community.

The other gala stars at the show were Aida Nour (who, along with Tito wowwed everyone Saturday night when she and Tito did a duet on stage). UNMATA were the tribal act and blew people away with both their challenging workshop and their performance on the gala stage. Amy also took part in the Tribal panel. Bozenka, who I have always adored as a dancer and who I have all new respect for, Ferda Bayazit who taught Turkish Rom dance and Lopa Sarkar who taught a grand Bollywood workshop.

Performances that knocked my socks off: Jim Boz, always a quality act; Asha from Georgia who did some thrilling balancing dancing with a wine glass on her head. She did drops, level changes, spins and a death spiral that had me holding my breath; Mariyah from New York did a superb veil piece and danced again on Sunday night at Layali Arabesque; Ozgen Ozgec was all male power (Go Team Testosterone) edVenture Arts from Edmonton Alberta had a bellydance street gang fight on stage that was funny and technically spiff; Dominique from Quebec did tribal fusion and was slick; Ranya Renee brought her Maqamikaze troupe from NYC with her and they brought a nice new feel to bellydance with a theatrical bent to their performance.

The highs: Watching Tito dance to the music of the Arabesque Orchestra at the Sunday night closing party at Myth; looking over during one of Tito's workshops and seeing all the male bellydancers were in the same area learning, and feeling that male energy; Getting to meet so many new people who geek out about bellydance as much as I do. I love immersing myself in that.

The lows: Being exhausted. I overdid it again this year what with workshops, dancing almost every night, teaching privates and running errands for the conference. We also said goodbye to two troupe members after Saturday's gala show and it got a bit emotional. The other problem was that the local transit went on strike on Friday night, meaning conference goers had to pony up cash for cabs ($$$$$) rather than rely on the cheap transit system. It also caused more traffic on the roads, which was a pain.

Revelations: Interesting views came out during the Tribal panel from local people. Some things to think about for me.

V you are a gem! Thank you so much for that. IBCC is on top of my to-do list next year. It's a great reason to be exhausted. I just (like a few hours ago) got back from Tononto. Lovely people, but the air took my breath away. My allergies almost got the best of me. But I will return for IBCC! Again, thanks V!

The thing about the IBCC is that it is a thinking person's bellydance conference. I regret I couldn't go to most of the Panel Discussions and presentations because some of the workshops took precedence for me.

And it has such an ... energy. The goodwill and joy of the people in attendance is so infectious that you float for a week afterwards... if you aren't mentally exhausted from the dancing and the lectures.

Guys (and ladies) you should consider applying to dance on some of the stages next year. The IBCC is always looking to see what other dancers are doing.

And Jim, it is a pity you didn't stay until the end! You were missed.

The Gala show was spectacular! In the end Tito and AIda danced together in an impromptu finale and then danced again at Myth at the Layali Arabesque closing party.

Oh yes, I'm bummed I missed the end. But with all my travel, it's good to be home.

I'm leaving tomorrow and won't be home for 11 days, which I'll spend packing for Cairo. I'll see Aida in Cairo. ;)
Not sure if we're going to stalk Tito yet, tho.

Plus, when I got home a biker buddy of mine from BC was riding to TJ. He's doing a book: Two Wheels To TJ
This way, we let him rest at our house and we went on a festive ride up the backroads to the Wild Animal Park and he got some kick-ass pictures. Check out stkphoto.blogspot.com/ and scroll a bit down. There's a pic of 3 guys next to their bikes. I'm in the blue tank top. ;)

Too many things to do every day!

I hope they schedule IBCC for next year on my only ONE weekend I have left in April 2009!
