I am so excited! After teaching belly dance to women for 4 years now, I have a guy that wants to join my class. I really would love to teach him, but I have never taught men before. I have seen many male dancers perform and I have taken workshops by Jim Boz, but never seen how a man would be instructed. Are there any conciderations I need to be aware of? Or can I teach him the same basic structure of movements that I teach the women and let him discover his own style within that? I want to do this well and teach him right, so any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Sun, January 18, 2009 - 9:02 PMMy teacher Andalee made no exceptions or alterations for me. I was one of the girls so to speak. She told me that before I started, and I loved the classes. I was worried the women in class would have a problem with me being there, but they welcomed me and still keep in touch. If he really wants to learn, he'll adjust.

Wed, January 21, 2009 - 6:05 AMMy teachers have been great in exploring masculine variations, and figuring out moves that work well with my physique, but I'm also expected to blend in. I wouldn't have it any other way.
