This started out as a smartass remark, in response to another post, but after thinking about it, I decides to make a...ahem...Tassled Codpiece.
Paul is modeling it for me in the Tribe Photo section. More views are in my profile.
I was thinking to make a few more.
I'd like to know, would guys actually wear it?

Re: Tassled Codbelt
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 12:41 AMI must say that I think I would find it really distracting as a costume piece.

Re: Tassled Codbelt
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 6:37 AMthe more I look at it, the more ideas I get.
My troupe leans more Cabaret-styled and once I can afford it I am going to have a vest and belt custom made with all the intricate beading and fringe that the bra would have on the vest. For the belt I was going to just have one of the same ones as the women have that goes straight around the hips.
looking at your codbelt though, I am thinking if it was done in a cabaret beaded style it would look really good. whenever I see the catalogues of the bra/belt sets for women I do not like the ones that put something (eg. a flower, a butterfly) right over the center of a woman's breast. this accentuates that feature and is distracting to an audience. In the same way, the vertical stripe in the center of this "codbelt" not only draws attention to the man's crotch, but looks like the member itself. (like a bra with a target drawn on each side!) If you did diagonal stripes or swirls or even horizontal stripes it would not only be more flattering, it'd look really GOOD!
I went into your profile to see the other views and being able to see the tassels at the bottom from the front looks like he didn't wipe properly, the back accentuates the butt which is awesome, I would suggest doing some kind of design on it though so it is not just a black panel over the tush. As I do not do tribal I do not know what would work, more tassels, more stitching? For the cabaret cod in my mind, I am thinking more of the style of swirls of beads like is on a woman's belt.
if it was done differently, I would definitely consider buying one, t would all depend on where the lines lie.

p.s. if you made that vest I'll buy one. If not, PLEASE tell me where I can get one! -

Re: Tassled Codbelt
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 7:24 AMThanks for the feedback!
It's actually based on a on the body of some CK Jockstarp underwear.
Paul is wearing black pants. so the contrast isn't good. Basicly what is feathered is all strap. The front can of course be worn without padding. The first one was an XL since that was what i had.
We were going to take some of the dangly stuff off the crotch area, I just left it as is.
The idea was that if woment came take a Bra and stick some beading on it, why not guys underwear?
Oh, and the Vest is for sale. I have some more sizes and a couple other colors and styles, I just haven't loaded them up on the website yet. I have to check all the stock. -

Mon, April 21, 2008 - 7:27 AMOne other thing, it might be hard to wear with some costumes, but this one was for a Tribal event and most of the guys wear some kind of Melodia-type tighter fitting pant..The belt itself is the front pouch with a waist and the 2 leg straps. -

Re: Tassled Codbelt
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 9:38 AMWell, it certainly directs one's attention Front & Center!
I just love the photo of Paul. That's something I would ask of my husband... "honey, would you dress up in these Melodia's and a a pee pee sheath so I can take your picture!"
Hugs, Yasemin :-)

Fri, April 25, 2008 - 3:48 PMHMMMM.
Now I am thinking I need to go and figure out what size string bikini would fit OVER my pants. A string bikini would be the same as a jockstrap, except that the tush is filled in with fabric.

Re: Tassled Codbelt
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 3:11 PMI personally would never be able to get myself to wear something like that, and it might be hard to market since it is a bit like hey heres my bits, but i think its a freakishly cool design. My only idea would be to maybe take out the tasselage along the bottom of the butt and just keep it up higher, but keep the bead work. -

Re: Tassled Codbelt
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 8:30 PMI did actually make a couple new designs.
Paul is modelling all three in my profile pics.
I took all 3 to our last show to get feedback. Quite a lot of people really liked them (after getting over the first shock).
I got some very postive response and suggestions.
I think there is a market, maybe not all bellydancers, but for some events or venues they would be fine.
Some women also wanted something similar, tho without the cod obviously.
If I replaced that with say a panel but kept some other design features it may be less pointedly male, or more unisex.
